- Please note that we are not suggesting that you should be on any specific side of any of these issues. We just want you to become familiar with one of them, present multiple sides of it, and spur a conversation about it. For instance, if you're talking about prostitution, don't just talk about why it should or should not be legal. Talk about the problems related to prostitution such as sex trafficking, drug addiction, disease, objectification, rape, murder, unwanted pregnancies, morality, etc. Then talk about different approaches people have taken to solving these problems, such as legalization with regulation, nonprofit involvement, government issue of contraceptives and health services, total outlaw, etc., and the effectiveness of these various approaches.
- If you're still not sure what you want to talk about, think about what your own interests- this can be hobbies, future career plans, favorite products, favorite movies/TV shows/books, or anything else that is a part of your life. Then think about how those things relate to women. For example, if you are interested in the military, you could talk about women in the military- you might consider rape statistics, wage/promotion inequality, cultural treatment within different branches, military wives, and any other disparities you discover along the way. You might also talk about women's historical involvement in the military as nurses, spies, etc., and what it was like for them. Of course, always remember to try to end your presentation on a positive note, such as an organization which is helping those women or by showing some improvements in the area, such as the fact that women are allowed to enlist now, and that they are taking advantage of that right more and more.
- Another great way to find a topic is by checking out some of the websites, films, and books, and YouTube on this page and then talking about what you learned from them and your thoughts on the topics brought up. Be sure to tie in research from other sources as well, so that you can offer a more balanced and knowledgeable viewpoint on the issues.
- While every member is encouraged to present, presentations will NOT be required this year unless they plan to run for officer.
